Vienas žymiausių, novatoriškiausių XX a. pirmos pusės lietuvių profesionalių dailininkų – tapytojas, grafikas, scenografas Adomas Galdikas (1893–1969), kurio 125-osios gimimo metinės sutapo su atkurtos Lietuvos gimtadieniu. Straipsnio tyrimo objektas – Žemaičių muziejuje „Alka“ saugomas mažai tyrinėtas išeivijos dailininko A. Galdiko kūrybinis palikimas, kurį sudaro XX a. penkto–septinto dešimtmečio vaizduojamosios dailės kūriniai.

Galdikas’ artworks and personal belongings, which from the USA were taken to Lithuania thanks to the patron of culture Beatričė Kleizaitė-Vasaris and in 2002 they were handed over to the museum. The most impressive is the collection of fine artworks which consists of 2,606 exhibits: the sketches, drawings, studies, pictures, which were mostly created in exile in the 5th – 7th decade of the 20th century. In 2018, the project “The colourful treasure of the artworks of the artist Adomas Galdikas (1893– 1969)” to commemorate the 125th birth anniversary of A. Galdikas was successfully implemented. The aim of the project was to hold a travelling exhibition introducing the creative heritage of the famous artist. A poster and the leaflets were published, a virtual exhibition was prepared as well as an article was published in the periodical. The exhibition has been exhibited at the Samogitian Museum “Alka”, Samogitian Art Museum, the Oginski Cultural History Museum of Rietavas, Kretinga Museum, Šilutė Hugo Sheu museum and Gargždai Regional Museum, later it will travel to Skuodas Museum. The exhibition presents the artworks, mostly consisting of landscapes and abstract compositions, of the 5th–7th decade of the 20th century. Lithuanian landscapes, hilly areas of Samogitia with old cemeteries and homesteads, revealing the love and longing for the native land are depicted in the unique artworks. The abstract landscapes, the blooming of trees and flowers naturally convey the beauty of nature and the personal emotion of the artist. The abstract artworks fascinate not only with their distinctive colours, unique subtleties of plastic language, but also express the artist’s spiritual state and thoughts, and they show an extremely high artistic level. The creative heritage of the emigrant artist A. Galdikas, preserved in the Samogitian museum “Alka”, is extremely rich, significant, of great historical, cultural, artistic value, and it is getting more familiar and accessible to the public.
