ENThe object of the present article is “The Ancient Kupiškėnai Wedding” (1966) and “The Wedding in the Other Country” (2000), as well as their languages as regional and ethnical sign of identity. The aim is to ascertain the revealed regional and ethnical peculiarities of the languages by the performances “The Ancient Kupiškėnai Wedding” and “The Wedding in the Other Country”. By analyzing the expression of linguistic functions and location boundaries of ethnographic performances, the influence of linguistic localization is examined. Analytical-descriptive, analysis and interrogation methods are used in the present research. The material is collected from the movie “The Ancient Kupiškėnai Wedding” (director E. Šaltis), from the performance sound record (1972, Vilnius Recording Studio) and from the record of the ethnographical performance “The Wedding in the Other Country” (DVD, 2004). The other information was taken from major and auxiliary archives of Kupiškis Ethnographic Museum. The language of performance “The Ancient Kupiškėnai Wedding” and the continuity of the wedding tradition in the second half of the 20th century were related not only to the local native, but also to Lithuanian ethnical identity.Consequently, the localization of sub-dialect was expanded. The performance “The Wedding in the Other Country” reflects both the local native culture and Lithuanian culture. However, the loss of tendency of the wedding tradition and custom continuity is noticeable in nowadays. Both performances were/are valued and comprehensible as the sign of Lithuanian identity in Lithuania and abroad. Currently, the function of Kupiškis sub-dialect is narrowed. This is because the language of performance, as the interrogation data prove, more often reflects only the culture of Kupiškis or Aukštaitija region. Therefore, in today’s context, the performances “The Ancient Kupiškėnai Wedding” and “The Wedding in the Other Country” might be considered as an important phenomenon of Kupiškis culture that reflects only the culture of this region not including the level of the whole Lithuania.
