ENThe article explains Gabrielė Petkevičaitė-Bitė‘s ideas and actions emerging in the period when modern Lithuanian society, in which we are living and which we express, was only beginning to shape: what they were like and how they correspond with our daily life, related to the values of civil society. The facts mentioned and discussed in the article, the ideas quoted testify and confirm the statement, formulated in the historiography, that Gabrielė Petkevičaitė-Bitė in her activities and publicistic discussions was one of the main liberally orientated activists of that time, who was forming the attitudes that families, lot tied by patriarchal bonds, and individuals (nren as well as women) taking part in public activities fostered Lithuanian national revival and development of the continue identifying ourselves, as society, with Petkevičaitė- Bitė's Lithuania, it is noticed that facts of her life, her ideas call US to consider what in the šame phenomena, processes, lasting until has remained, what has changed or has not changed, how and new Lithuanian society.
