ENThe theme reflects the importance of information technologies for modern society and for the development of the regions. The growth of the tourism is one of the region's development strategic objectives. Presenting natural settings are as important as presenting historic urban areas. Social networks are one of the key elements of nowadays informational technologies. It is used by cities, towns and regions to form their social images. Advertising on Facebook can be an effective tool to shape the town's image. Many Lithuanian cities have their own Facebook accounts reflecting their identities. The problem of research may be defined by the questions: what informational technologies are used by the Municipalities of Anykščiai, Trakai, and Vilnius seeking to present their towns to the tourists, and how effectively Vilnius Municipality presents Lithuanian capital on Facebook? The aim of this article is to analyse what informational technologies are applied by the Municipalities of Anykščiai, Trakai, and Vilnius presenting their social images. The main tasks are: 1) to perform analysis of scientific literature; 2) to design the research methodology; 3) to analyse the data; 4) to formulate conclusions. Research methods: analysis of scientific literature, interviews, qualitative research (content analysis).Having accomplished the data analysis, some major conclusions were formulated: 1. According to the scientific literature analysis, presenting the region, city or town to the tourist the main information concerns some specific and unique features, representing attractiveness and uniqueness of the area. 2. Considering that Anykščiai, Trakai, and Vilnius are among the most prominent touristic towns of Lithuania, their Municipalities produce considerable efforts applying informational technologies for the social representation of their towns. 3. The Municipality of Anykščiai put an emphasis on nature and recently created Treetop Walking Path. The Municipality of Trakai put an emphasis on historical heritage and spectacular natural scenery. Vilnius Municipality should make an effort in order to define the specific identity of Vilnius. 4. The content analysis of Vilnius city Facebook account showed that its Municipality is not taking advantage of all the opportunities provided by the social networking. 5. The research should be extended to other Lithuanian Municipalities analysing different practices of informational technologies’ application for the presentation of their towns. [From the publication]
