Summary / Abstract:

LTStraipsnyje pristatomas COVID–19 pandemijos metu atliktas žaidimo loterijose tyrimas.

ENSince the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, there has been a lack of scientifically based recommendations that would take into account the role of lotteries in various social, cultural and economic communities. In order to address this problem, a study has been conducted to find out how the behavior and attitudes towards lotteries of the lottery players in Lithuania have been affected during the COVID-19 lockdown. The study combines quantitative (survey) and qualitative (use of focus groups in which the discussion has been conducted by a moderator following a structured discussion schedule) research methods. The population survey has been carried out in Lithuania in the spring of 2020 immediately following the easing of the COVID-19 restrictions. The respondents were Lithuanian citizens who are 18 years old and older. The survey was carried out in the form of an interview at the respondent's home. The number and sample of respondents (1 000) is representative for the Lithuanian population. The data of the 2020 Lithuanian population survey are compared to the data of the population surveys from 2017 and 2019. The study provided new data about them, expanded our understanding of the role of lotteries and showed that the lockdown has had no impact for a quarter of the respondents regarding their decisions on the purchase of lottery tickets. For a substantial part of respondents, participation in lotteries is a habit which can be associated with general family entertainment as well as with a confirmation of individual life stability and ability to control it. Until now, the latter aspect of participation in lotteries has been in the margins of our understanding of lotteries and has been largely unnoticed by the media. Keywords: COVID-19 pandemic, lotteries, leisure. [From the publication]
