Summary / Abstract:

LTSlaugytojų profesinis perdegimas yra labai aktuali, tačiau Lietuvoje mažai tyrinėta problema, kuri dar labiau išryškėjo COVID-19 pandemijos kontekste. COVID-19 pandemijos laikotarpis pareikalavo iš sveikatos priežiūros įstaigų prisitaikymo, išradingumo ir lankstumo. Slaugos ir palaikomojo gydymo ligoninėse dirbantys slaugytojai teikia paslaugas sunkios būklės ir mirštantiems pacientams, tad jiems reikėjo didelių pastangų, siekiant suvaldyti koronaviruso COVID-19 plitimą įstaigose, o tai tik dar labiau paskatino profesinio perdegimo atsiradimą. ENThe relevance of the thesis topic. Occupational burnout syndrome is a serious and increasing problem among the nurses whose work process is based on intensive contacts with other people leading to strong mental workloads which, in the long run, manifest by emotional exhaustion and loss of interest in work. The pandemic situation, outbursts in health care establishments exposed problems of lack of safety and medical personnel. The subject of the thesis covers: expression of occupational burnout among nurses. The aim of the thesis: to examine expression of burnout among nurses working in a nursing and palliative care hospital during the period of COVID-19 pandemic. The theoretical part of the thesis looks into the concept of occupational burnout and the reasons typical to the work processes of nurses. It has been revealed that nurse’s work under the conditions of COVID-19 pandemic requires enormous physical and emotional dedication, adaptation to risky working environment and additional workload. The largest nursing and palliative care hospital in the Kaunas Region was chosen for the research where an anonymous questionnaire-based survey was carried out. As the research revealed, the symptoms of occupational burnout syndrome among nurses prior COVID-19 pandemic include sleep disturbance and mood swings. COVID-19 pandemic situation that is accompanied by stressful situations manifests by increased workload, lack of rest, and discomfort faced due to special protective clothing. As regards emotional symptoms during the COVID-19 pandemic, nurses are suffering from mental exhaustion, feeling of hopelessness and emotional void. Increased arterial blood pressure and vision disorders were noted among physiological symptoms. Long-lasting high intensity physical workload when working with special clothes causes dehydration and skin problems. [From the publication]
