ENFor hundreds and thousands of years, people have been talking to their land through the place names. Naming of a place is a form of creation. The names of residential areas and their environment always tell about the community. When the names of places related to nature are selected and grouped, their sequences vary in length. The unequal number of single-root place names reveals the nature of the landscape. Lithuania was the most densely populated in its history in the mid-20th c., and at that time more than 25 thousand names of residential areas were recorded (1959), which, with the beginning of the transformations of communities and the landscape, began to be destroyed indiscriminately. The names of residential areas and their meanings were almost forgotten, but not entirely. [From the publication]
