Summary / Abstract:

LTGimtoji kalba – neatskiriama kiekvieno žmogaus gyvenimo dalis. Ji yra svarbiausia žmonių bendravimo priemonė, be kurios negali būti visuomenės pažangos. Buvo laikai, kai žmonės nemokėjo rašyti, tačiau nėra buvę laikų, kad visuomenė būtų išsivertusi be kalbos. Kalba yra neįkainojamas žmonių turtas, kurio negalima nepaisyti. Straipnyje aprašomi iššūkiai lietuvių kalbai globalizacijos sąlygomis, lietuvių kalbos prestižo samprata ir jo kėlimo priemonės šiuolaikiniame kontekste. Remiantis empirinio tyrimo duomenimis lyginamas X kolegijos dėstytojų ir studentų požiūris į lietuvių kalbos prestižą. [Iš leidinio]

ENThe article describes the challenges for the Lithuanian language in the conditions of globalization, the concept of the prestige of the Lithuanian language and the means of strengthening the prestige of the language in the modern context. Based on the data of the empirical research, the attitudes of the teachers and students of the X College towards the prestige of the Lithuanian language are compared. It is widely acknowledged that the prestige of language (status, image, state, condition) is closely linked to language policy and planning in the state, the social value of the language and the language users’ values. By forming and strengthening the prestige of the Lithuanian language, Lithuania is looking for new ways to interest the public in the Lithuanian language and to encourage its use, creation and renewal. However, ongoing public language education measures and initiatives require a more systematic approach and more thorough research. After conducting a survey of the attitudes of teachers and students of College X towards the prestige of the Lithuanian language and summarizing its results, it can be concluded that the answers of the respondents in many cases coincide. Both teachers and students largely agree that they care about the future of the Lithuanian language and that the language needs to be nurtured and protected. Only less than a quarter of teachers and students agree that a public language environment helps to learn the correct language. The majority of respondents associate proper mother tongue with culture and education. The opinions of teachers do not differ much because of the connection between the mother tongue and the professional career – only a small part of the respondents do not agree. Respondents’ answers about respect for the Lithuanian language in our country are very similar. Only less than a quarter of respondents agree with this. The answers differ slightly due to the fostering of the Lithuanian language in the family and the circumstances in which they try to speak correctly. Summarizing the respondents’ answers to what the Lithuanian language means to them, it can be stated that the personal relationship with the mother tongue is very positive and optimistic. Both teachers and students perceive the Lithuanian language as the basis of national identity, the part of personal identity, they feel close connection between the Lithuanian language homeland, they consider the Lithuanian language to be cherished and nourished of its ancestors, and recognize the function of the Lithuanian language as a means of communication.
