LTTarpukario švietimo viceministro Kazimiero Masiliūno (1902- 1973) asmenybė iki šiol nesulaukė išsamių tyrinėjimų, nors atskirais aspektais apie jo veiklą ir gyvenimą yra rašę keli autoriai. Apie Kazimiero Masiliūno gyvenimą yra paskelbti jo vaikų Vytauto Masiliūno ir Danutės Masiliūnaitės-Zorubienės, kraštietės Marijos Sereikienės prisiminimai, kuriuose gvildenamas tarpukario ir pokario laikotarpis. K. Masiliūno kaip Nepriklausomybės kovų kario ir savanorio veikla aptarta Juozo Brazausko straipsniuose. Pedagogo, Lietuvos mokyklos reformatoriaus ir kultūrininko veikla pristatyta Jono Švobos, Vytauto Žeimanto darbuose. Stasės Mikeliūnienės straipsnyje išsamiai nagrinėta Kazimiero Masiliūno įvairiopa ir vaisinga veikla. Simonos Žilytės darbe gilintasi į kai kuriuos švietimo viceministro biografijos faktus. Šiame straipsnyje siekiama atskleisti, kokie išoriniai aplinkos ir vidiniai paties individo veiksniai formavo Kazimiero Masiliūno asmenybę. Šiam tikslui pasiekti pasitelkiama Kazimiero šeimos istorija. Gyvenimo istorijų pasirinkimą lemia prielaida, jog naratyvai geriau išryškina subjektyvius individo išgyvenimus, jų konstruojamus tapatumus bei vertybes. ENPersonality distinctiveness is determined by several factors - inherent personal features, environmental factors, and values developed by the individual. The article aims to reveal the external environmental and internal personal factors, which formed the personality of the Vice- minister of Education in the interwar period Kazimieras Masiliūnas (1902-1973). The history of Kazimieras family is the base of this study, because the narratives could better reflect the subjective experiences of the individual, the identities and values. The problem raised in the article: how K. Masiliūnas' personality influenced by external and internal factors chose his individual way, how he was shaping his individuality by his mature and free activity. The main source of this study is empirical field research material collected by the article author from Kazimieras Masiliūnas' family members. The study is also based on archival material, extracts from the Metric books of Panevėžys Diocese Ramygala Church, which provide valuable information on the family history of Kazimieras Masiliūnas. Comparative analysis is based on the works of previous researchers and the memories of contemporaries. The surrounding environment of Aukštaitija, the Southern Panevėžys dialect, the patriotic spirit of the people from this region, transmitted from the generation to generation played a significant role in the formation of Kazimieras Masiliūnas personality and worldview. Summarizing the peculiarities of Kazimieras Masiliūnas personal picture the several features of his personality can be mentioned - patriotism, citizenship, intelligence, inner vitality, pursuit of the chosen goal and responsibility for his actions, tolerance, politeness and respect for the people thinking differently. These features formation was influenced by independent external factors, which were formed by the living environment.These factors were as follows: the birth in Aukštaitija dwellers' family, the patriotic spirit of Ramygala region, the prison, the exile, the repressions of the occupant government, wife's illness, the emigration, illnesses caused by hard conditions of exile. Certainly, the K.Masiliūnas' personality was also influenced by internal factors and self-consciously chosen values such as the love for the Homeland, volunteering in the fights for Lithuania freedom, citizenship, pursuit of education and set goals, interest in the Lithuanian nation and culture issues, tolerance for otherwise thinking people and responsibility for his own actions. The personality of Kazimieras Masiliūnas, who dedicated his life to Lithuanian culture, language and education, today have been underestimated by Lithuanian society. Kazimieras Masiliūnas was the reformer of education in independent Lithuania, the well-known educator, the well-known developer of national Lithuanian school and the Lithuanian language, the public figure and the father of four children, a participant of the Lithuanian freedom struggle, the exile to Siberia and the political prisoner. Kazimieras Masiliūnas sharply recorded his honorable name into the history of Lithuanian culture. [From the publication]
