ENThe global crisis caused by COVID-19 has also disrupted the education system, thus in order to maintain a continuous and high-quality learning process, it has become especially important to develop distance learning methods, analyze their shortcomings and expand opportunities. The aim of this research is to reveal student‘s attitudes to the distance learning experience during quarantine. Analysis of scientific literature, questionnaire survey and quantitative data analysis methods were used in this work. The study conducted at Vytautas Magnus University from April to June in the year 2020 involved 205 students with an average age of 19.5 years. The respondents were presented with a methodology of 18 questions developed by the author of the paper, which is intended to determine the socio-demographic data of the subjects and to find out the opinion about the disadvantages, advantages and opportunities for improvement of distance learning during the period of the 1st quarantine. The vast majority (96%) of respondents attended full-time lectures before the pandemic, and the survey revealed that 26% of respondents would like to pursue distance learning and that the share of distance learning in studies would be around 40%. The results of the study showed that the biggest advantages of students’ distance learning during the crisis are their independence, better opportunities to use lecture materials, computer literacy training, and the biggest disadvantages of distance learning are emerging technical problems. The most noticeable threat of distance learning for students is the risk of lack of practical knowledge and academic dishonesty. The quality of distance learning would be most improved by the introduction of modern learning tools and strengthening of the teacher-student relationship. The research showed that students of Vytautas Magnus University appreciated the experience of distance learning and the challenges it caused during the pandemic crisis. Distance learning through the development of online technologies provides opportunities to maintain continuous learning in challenging settings and develop a strategy for lifelong learning.
