ENThe text of the “Nowiny Lubelskie [Lublin News]” is preserved in two manuscripts. The older 16th-century manuscript is now kept in the State Archives in Lublin. The edition of the “Nowiny Lubelskie [Lublin News]” is the edition of the manuscript kept in the Lublin State Archives. It has been published in two forms: the edition of the copied text and the facsimile edition of the manuscript. The present source is an extremely interesting document that shows a part of the session of the Lublin Sejm of 1569, which resulted in the conclusion of a union between the Crown of Poland and the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and the rise of the Commonwealth (Republic) of Both Nations. It contains many interesting details about what happened in Lublin during three days, from March 4 to 6, 1569 when the Lithuanian dignitaries and Deputies to the Lithuanian Sejm left Lublin, having refused to accept the union conditions offered by the Polish side. Today we know that those were the days of fundamental significance not only for the fate of the union but first of all for the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. The source remains anonymous but it is easy to guess who the author was. It was Maciej Sawicki, one of the then four Clerks of Lithuania, Starost of Mielno, and Castellan of Podlasie from March 1574.
