Žvaigždės pakeičia skeptrus: 1695 m. Kražių rankraščio poezija

LTŠi knyga atveria naują langą į rankraštinį Lietuvos Didžiosios Kunigaikštystės jėzuitų kolegijų paveldą. Knygoje skelbiami penki rinktiniai skirtingų žanrų poezijos ciklai iš vadinamojo 1695 m. Kražių rankraščio (jų lotyniški originalai ir poetiniai vertimai), su šiuo rankraščiu, jo poetiniais tekstais ir jų kontekstais supažindina tiriamieji straipsniai, o išsamūs komentarai padeda perprasti šiandieniam suvokėjui gana painius Baroko poezijos kūrinius, įžvelgti jų perteikiamus tam tikrus XVII amžiaus retorikos kodus ir juose atsiskleidžiančius jėzuitų edukacijos ypatumus. Leidinyje skelbiama poezija yra iš unikalaus šaltinio. Didžiulis, beveik 700 puslapių, 1695 m. Kražių rankraštis, saugomas Krokuvos Czartoryskių bibliotekoje, yra išskirtinė rankraštinė knyga, papuošta dailiais ornamentais, piešiniais, emblemomis, kaligrafiškais įrašais, įmantriosios poezijos figūromis. Čia sudėtas aštuonių gabių studentų, 1694/1695 m. Kražių jėzuitų kolegijoje klausiusių retorikos kurso, per pratybas surinktas „metinis derlius“: pagal XVII amžiaus retorikos madas sukomponuotos barokiškai puošnaus stiliaus kalbos ir įvairių žanrų poezijos kūriniai, nuo ilgų epinių poemų iki šmaikščių epigramų ir išradingų įmantriosios poezijos formų. Didžioji dauguma tekstų parašyti lotynų kalba, yra ir šiek tiek lenkiškų eilių. Studentai kūrė vadovaujami retorikos kurso dėstytojo Petro Puzynos (1550–1568), vykdydami jėzuitų edukacijoje privalomas savarankiškos kūrybos užduotis.Rankraštis ir seniau buvo žinomas specifiniam mokslininkų ratui, jo apipavidalinimas traukė vizualiosios kūrybos tyrėjų žvilgsnį, tačiau ilgai niekas rimčiau šiuo rankraščiu nesidomėjo. Iki 2013 m. šaltinis buvo praktiškai netirtas. Prieš keletą metų literatūrologės Živilės Nedzinskaitės ir istoriko Dariaus Antanavičiaus pastangomis pristatytas Lietuvos visuomenei, Kražių kolegijos auklėtinių kūrybos rinkinys pasirodė esąs reikšmingas ir įvairiopų tyrimų vertas LDK istorijos ir literatūros šaltinis. Pradėjus išsamius rankraščio tyrimus, pastebėta, kad Kražių jėzuitų studentų rankraštis išsiskiria visame XVII–XVIII a. panašaus pobūdžio LDK rankraščių kontekste. Studentų kūrybos rinkinių, kurie būtų taip gerai išsilaikę ir reprezentuotų tiek daug literatūros žanrų, likę ypač mažai. Kitų panašaus užmojo jėzuitų studentų kūrybos rankraščių neturime, artimiausias šio rinkinio analogas – taip pat Czartoryskių bibliotekos fondams priklausantis 1696 m. Oršos rankraštis: jame to paties mokytojo, po Kražių dėsčiusio Oršos kolegijoje, retorikos kurso studentų kūriniai sudėti panašiu žanrinės įvairovės principu. Taigi kol kas vieninteliai žinomi panašaus pobūdžio rankraščiai priklauso Petro Puzynos mokinių plunksnai, ir šis faktas leidžia numanyti svarbų dėstytojo indėlį lavinant jaunųjų jėzuitų savarankiškos kūrybos gebėjimus. ENThis book comprises a selection of five cycles of different poetic genres from the Kražiai College manuscript of 1695, which is a unique set of literary works and emblems in Latin (also some in Polish), preserved in the Czartoryski Library in Cracow (sign. 1866 IV). This huge collection was left by eight alumni of the Society of Jesus who in 1694–1695 had studied rhetoric at the Kražiai College under their professor Peter Puzyna (1664–1717). The entire manuscript represents an exclusive volume of 700 pages and includes a wide variety of poetry and prose works and fifty emblems. The title of this ornately designed manuscript is no less elaborate: Fructus horni meditationis rhetoricae Crosis ab academicis Societatis fusi et in cornucopiam depositi, sive specimina profectus in utraque eloquentia rhetorum Crosensium Societatis Iesu anno M DC XCV sub reverendo patre Petro Puzyna professore dignissimo (Annual fruits of the rhetorical meditation gathered and filled into a cornucopia by students of the Kražiai College of the Society of Jesus, or examples of the achievements of the students of rhetoric of the Society of Jesus from Kražiai in dual eloquence (i. e., prose and poetry) prepared in 1695 under the tutelage of the most honourable professor Peter Puzyna). The manuscript was quite well known, its visual material was used by researchers of poesis artificiosa and figured poetic forms, but it did not attract more serious attention. Until 2013, this source had remained virtually unresearched. The beginning of comprehensive research brought to light how distinctive the collection of the creations of the students of the Kražiai College is in the context of similar manuscripts of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. The collections of students’ creations which have survived so well and represent so many literary genres are very few in number.In a few years, the scholarly work on the Kražiai manuscript gained speed. The publication of the facsimile and transcription of the whole manuscript was prepared by the Lithuanian scholars Živilė Nedzinskaitė and Darius Antanavičius (1695 m. Kražių rankraštis, arba metinis retorinės meditacijos derlius = Manuscriptum Crosense anni 1695, sive fructus horni meditationis rhetoricae, 2020). Until now some of the manuscript’s prose texts (six out of thirty rhetorical orations) have been published by these two scholars with translation into Lithuanian by Darius Antanavičius and Sigitas Narbutas (Kaip jėzuitai žemaičių mylias trumpino: 1695 m. Kražių rankraščio prozos fragmentai = How the Jesuits shortened Samogitian miles: Prose fragments from the 1695 Kražiai manuscript, 2014). From the poetry pieces of the Kražiai manuscript, a poem about St Casimir was translated by Narbutas and published in the scholarly journal Senoji Lietuvos literatūra (Early Lithuanian literature, 2015, 39). In the same journal, articles on the chronograms and chronostichs of the Kražiai manuscript and on its artistic design were published by Antanavičius and the art historian Jolita Liškevičienė, respectively. The current research, the results of which are presented in this book, was carried out as part of the project funded by the Research Council of Lithuania (Nr. S-LIP-18-42) and is focused specifically on the poetry and emblem cycles of the collection, their analysis and translation. Selected texts represent various poetic genres presented in the Kražiai manuscript, also topics related to Lithuania and the Jesuits. The poetic part of the manuscript is a truly important literary and educational heritage that hardly has surviving analogues in its epoch.The present book consists of a foreword, a sholarly study (by Nedzinskaitė and Dilytė-Čiurinskienė) and five selected poetic cycles from the Kražiai manuscript, which are published together with a copy of the original in Latin and its translation into Lithuanian, accompanied by exhaustive contextual and intertextual commentaries. The object of this study is the poetry of the Kražiai manuscript, whose characteristics welcome the critical lens of interdisciplinary and comparative analysis. The research rationale derives from the underlying assumption that in examining the creative legacy of the Jesuit colleges, it is important to take into consideration the peculiarities of Jesuit education and the close unity of individual training and the goals of mandatory creative work. The analysis of the manuscript’s poetic works aims to reveal the prevailing literary trends in Jesuit educational institutions in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, their critical reception by M. C. Sarbiewski and other famous writers of the epoch, the co-creative models of the teacher and students, and the methods used in the study of poetry. By highlighting the meditative nature of the manuscript’s poetic and visual compositions, this book demonstrates how the braiding together of classical and Christian literary traditions in a course on rhetoric can be applied to the aims of sacred eloquence, i.e. homiletics.
