ENBishop Antanas Karosas is probably the bishop of Lithuania who ruled the diocese for the longest time. However, during his years of service, very complex political processes took place: change of governments, deportation, war, occupation. Perhaps the most difficult period is 1940 -1947. Lithuania was then occupied by the Soviet Union, later ruled by the Nazis, and eventually returned to the Kremlin rule. Bishop Karosas, like the whole nation, survived the struggle of the occupying regimes with the Catholic Church in Lithuania. However, he, though at a respectable age and in an effort to avoid conflicts with the authorities, set a strong example of a pastor loyal to the Church. [From the publication]
