Summary / Abstract:

LTReikšminiai žodžiai: Lietuviški asmenvardžiai; 1565 m.; Gardino bajorai; Lithuanian personal names; 1565; Grodno's noblemen.

ENThe article explores the names of the noblemen of the Grodno County according to the Grand Duchy of Lithuania census of 1565 and Baltic (most likely Lithuanian) personal names. The names of men and women are divided into Christian and non-Christian. All recorded canonical and folk forms of Christian names are mentioned. Also, the recordings of eastern and western Christian names are listed. Only specifically Catholic and only specifically Orthodox names recorded in the register are listed, and this is associated with the affiliation of those names to the Lithuanian or Russian ethnic group. The article also lists and classifies the Baltic (most likely Lithuanian) elements of the name, i.e. place names and personal names, focusing more on the names bearing the root Eismont- and Eismontovich-. Lithuanian personal names are divided into two-rooted anthroponyms, two-rooted anthroponym abbreviations, two-rooted anthroponym suffix derivatives, Lithuanian appellatives and Lithuanian suffixes derivatives. Lithuanian personal names should be associated with the Lithuanians or the persons of Lithuanian descent. [From the publication]
