Summary / Abstract:

LTReikšminiai žodžiai: Universities with international character; Architecture; Literature; Transculturality in action.

ENHeidelberg and Vilnius, two great university cities with international character, with a high number of foreign students, with a reputation and great celebrity in education, culture, spirit, arts, science, architecture, literature... Heidelberg as the centre of Romanticism, a journey on the Philosophenweg is a sine qua non for the educated citizen. Vilnius, as the centre of the Jesuits, was already in the 16th century an important educational institution of Catholicism and of Judaism, source of religion, education, trade, business, science and culture of Eastern European Jews. The comparison of the two University cities should show many similarities and innovations that testify that transculturality has been practiced in these cities since centuries.
