ENAccording to V. Pruskus, we make our decisions regarding a value after having evaluated it. The evaluation and our decision re not identical: the evaluation may lead either to negative or to positive assumptions. Evaluation is always accompanied by our decision. People make their decisions relying on both rational and irrational arguments. Selecting values, people indirectly demonstrate their goals and ideals that they consider familiar and important. Ideals canbe considered as particular goals that probably will never be attained. Yet, the process of attainment itself becomes important and meaningful as it reveals the depth of a person's Ego. An individual taking genuine interest in something strives to cognise the object/subject, acquire more information about it, become similar to it and follow the same values. This way a person's position is formed. The highest disposition of a personality is his/her value orientation. Children and youth develop particular value orientations in the family and at school. The examples set by parents and teachers are of undeniable value. The content of teaching is of no less importance. Hence, the attitudes, opinions, beliefs and ideals of the older generation, as well as the general educational content determine what value orientations predominate in the youth population. Do the youth consider ethnic culture as a value?. [Extract, p. 126-127]
