ENThe Library of the Lithuanian Armed Forces existed in 1921–1940. Its activities and achievements left a significant imprint on the history of the Lithuanian Army, on the inter-war society, and on library science in Lithuania. Following the occupation of Lithuania by the Soviet Union, the library was closed, and its collections were transferred to other institutions. The aim of the present study is to reconstruct the size of the holdings of the Library of the Lithuanian Armed Forces. To this purpose, we have taken a look into the activities of the Library of the Lithuanian Armed Forces and the principles of the formation of its holdings, and examined the holdings of the Library of the Lithuanian Armed Forces, based on archival sources. With a view to showing the place and significance of the Library of the Lithuanian Armed Forces (its activities, the principles of the formation of its holdings) in the library system and in the society of inter-war Lithuania, we have examined available sources and other literature. Empirical data on the holdings of the Library of the Lithuanian Armed Forces were collected from inventory books of these holdings kept in the Manuscript Department of the Wroblewski Library of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences. The data were collected using Sample Size Calculator, (a public service of Creative Research Systems), and a Stat Trek random number generator. A bibliographic research method was used to determine the size of the holdings. Our research shows that 71 per cent of the documents from the Library of the Lithuanian Armed Forces have been merged into the holdings of the Wroblewski Library of Lithuanian Academy of Sciences; there is no information as to the other 29 per cent; the identified documents are now kept in the Main and the Reserve Holdings of the Wroblewski Library of LAS.
