ENIn 1996 the Department of the Offices of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania of the Lithuanian State Historical Archive launched a new inventory and description project, dealing with the so-called Early Acts (the complex of the fonds of offices of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania). To start with, a comparatively small fond of the Supreme Spiritual Tribunal of Lithuania (F: 9) was selected. The Tribunal functioned between 1581 and 1795. It consisted of the judges, appointed by the Supreme Tribunal of Lithuania and the Bishop of Vilnius. It held its sessions in Vilnius and tried the cases arising between the clergy and the gentry. The first items of the archive date back only to the year 1775, and 22 court books arc listed in the first inventory of the fond. Among them there are four books of other law courts, erroneously attributed to the list. In the reorganization of the fond these books were excluded both from the inventory and the indexes. Court books have their own internal inventories, which, however, are not informative enough. The second inventory, covering the years 1651-1792, consists of 21 files, selected by the archivists from various fragmentary documents. The language of the documents is Polish. The inventories of the fond arc compiled in Russian and Polish. Л Lithuanian variant is also being prepared; it indicates the title of the file, its archival signature, chronology, number of folios, and the language of the document. The indexes are compiled by personal names, by place-names and by subject. The name index also contains the titles and appointments, and the place-names - the types of the geographic objects and their administrative location. To make the information more accurate all the data are given in the language of the original i. e. in Polish. Specimens of the inventory items and indexes are presented in the paper.
