ENThe second Soviet occupation of Lithuania, starting right at the end of the war in 1945, marked the beginning of a new wave in the country's cultural and artistic life. It was during this period from 1945-1957 that Lithuanian theater experienced the strongest pressure of forced Soviet ideology, harsh dictatorship, strict political censorship and repression of artistic people; every aspect of theater seemed to be controlled by external forces. rust like in other Soviet-occupied regions, a repertoire committee was formed under the local Lithuanian Ministry of Culture. This committee executed far-reaching control, dictated repertoires, supervised premier productions, translated Lithuanian plays into Russian for Moscow's Ministry of Culture and prepared annual reports on theater activities. Lithuanian theater, especially its direction, lost its free spirit of creativity and independence. [Extract, p. 97]
