ENThe article aims at the analysis of the situation of conservative ideology in so called postmodern society. It is argued in it that the assumption of some authors about the conservative ideology being to some extent transformed into imagology can be at least partly true. There is some evidence speaking in favour of such assumption. The social and political conditions under which basic modern ideologies have come into being are undergoing considerable change. In many Western countries traditional ideologies including the conservative one have lost much of their significance and impact on the course of practical politics. The theoretical elaboration of ideologies to a considerable extent has closed itself within narrow academic circles rarely having the direct linkage with the adherents and supporters of those ideologies. As a result the conservative ideology along with other basic its counterparts is being presented to broader public just as having only some "value" which stands on equal footing with other values of nowadays society. On the other hand, the analysis of the recent condition of modern social and political theory together with the analysis of some basic characteristics of postmodern society reveals the possibility of the survival of conservative ideology. The rise of so called "populist" conservatism can be interpreted as a kind of commonsense reaction within population against the excesses of morally "neutral" postmodern liberal democratic social and political regime.
