ENIn 2015 Kaunas Technological University (KTU) publishing house published a unique scientific study by Dr Liucijus Dringelis, Dr Evaldas Ramanauskas, and Nijolė Steponaitytė “Identification and Preservation of Spatial Structure of Lithuanian Cities, Towns and Villages” (484 pages; with large number of illustrations). It is very important, needful and instrumental work and publication. In the last decades, globalization and integration processes are going very intensively. They bring together nations, their cultures, but in the same time gradually wither national identity. This process touches a lot of spheres, but especially big influence has to the condition of countries towns, townships and villages, their demographics, urbanity, architecture and landscape that in some scale gradually loses their visual aesthetic identity and singularity. The publication examines the peculiarities of the spatial structure of Lithuanian cities, towns and villages, critically evaluates ongoing processes and changes, which often negatively affect and destroy the main features of identity. Efforts are also being made to highlight positive situations where the uniqueness of urban residential areas are protected and nurtured. The scientific study presents the assessment of the spatial structure peculiarities of all the cities, towns and villages under consideration in a 5-point system and offers suggestions for the improvement of the spatial planning legislative framework in order to identify and preserve the peculiarity of the country's towns, townships and village areas. The publication is intended for the academic community and society interested in preserving the identity of cities, towns and villages in the country. So saving and cherishing characteristics of countries landscape, spatial identity. [From the publication]
