ENThe article analyses peculiarities of using coins for propaganda. The word propaganda here means the deliberate spread of various ideas and information (from Latin propago - I spread) in order to influence people. Propaganda on coins is exemplified and classified according to various periods, such as antiquity, the Middle Ages, the modern times. The conclusions are made that propaganda can be spread not only through the legends of coins, but also via symbols and signs depicted on them. The attention is paid to the deliberate spread of misleading information, the method especially commonly used for political purposes. It is also noted that the coinage of modern democratic countries is widely used to promote culture, arts, science, environmental protection and sports. [From the publication]
