ENA. The analysis of the modern grammars of the Lithuanian language and standard handbooks for higher educational establishments reveals certain gaps. As a rule, Lithuanian linguists define the analyzed here verbal forms with the suffix -dav- as "past frequentative tense". However, repetition of past states and events in Lithuanian can be rendered not only with the help of past frequentative tense, but also with the help of the so-called "past single-time tense". B. The basic function of the so-called past frequentative tense. Verbal forms with the suffix -dav- reserve a place for the quantifier of the semantic category of dcfinitencss/indefinitcncss in the semantic structure of the sentence, in particular habitual universality. The meaning of habitual universality in Russian is expressed mainly by the iterative imperfective past verbal forms, which, when appear in unambiguous contexts, do not need a cooperation with quantifying expressions.
