ENChildhood memories about the meals of the village people and a little bit of the town of Joniškis. There are meals that are common only in the region, the taste of which I feel in my mouth all my life, which I miss, which I always hope to taste when I visit the people of Joniškis. In writing, I mainly relied on the meals prepared by my mother Liucija Količiūtė-Kerelienė (1896–1994), who came from the village of Ropininkai, and the stories about my grandmother Barbora Kulbokaitė-Kolyčiuvienė (1860–1912), who came from the nearby village of Kirnaičiai, and grandfather Augustas Kolyčius (1845–1939) from Ropininkai village. What back in the 19th century they cooked, baked, soured, salted, smoked, dried, what they treated themselves to during the holidays, what they liked, what they ate during harvest times, during quite frequent fasts, by what they pampered children or the sick. The meals I described were eaten even in the 18th, 19th centuries and in the first half of the 20th century. And from the traditions of grandparents they reach the 17th century.
