ENThe article examines relationships between men and women in Lithuanian partisan movement, an important, yet not a well-known and researched part o f post-war everyday life history. Attempts were made to provide thorough study of this intimate sphere by using wide basis o f historical sources - egodocuments (diaries, memoirs) as well as others partisan documents, underground press articles and the songs of the freedom fighters’. It was ascertained that the “public” discourse (articles, creation works) reflected mostly conservative patriarchal norms and values, women were depicted emphasizing their role in the family, household, the devotion to them. Noted, that extramarital sexual relations, venereal diseases or promiscous behavior were often connected to enemies, as a deviation, typical exclusively for the Soviets and their collaborators. Some specific factors as masculine community, young age, marital status, tactics and changing conditions o f partisan war as well as leader’s authority and microclimate made assumptions for flirt and love affairs. Moreover, those two were very important part of partisans’ everyday life. There were two main types o f close relations. First - open relationships. The specifics o f partisans’ life created conditions that were perfect for flirting and having love affair with more than one girl at a time, plus sometimes members of the local society, most likely helpers of the partisans, were tended to let partisans cross some boundaries, as they were fighting and sacrificing their lives for everyone’s freedom. However not only men were those breaking rigid moral norms, but also some young women too. Traditional values were not forgotten, as a second type of relationships - long-term romantic friendships, engagements and even partisans’ marriages can be found in anti-Soviet underground resistance, too. Finally, relationships o f women and men had some negative aspects. Obviously, they were dangerous to the fighters and their lovers, since put their freedom and lives in a huge risk. In addition to this, specific conditions, personal choices and other factors could cause rapes, which were very uncommon, but still there were some cases of sexual assaults. [From the publication]
