ENThe article discusses monologic, dialogic and polilogic aspects of Antanas Škėma’s prose. A conclusion is made that Škėma’s works contain only one main character. Other people are portrayed not as individuals, ontologically equal to the main character/ but only as signs and arguments of the inner dispute. Dialogues also underline the impossibility of communication and comprehension. Škėma’s monologism directly relates to his concept of life which is close to the philosophy of absurd. , However, Škėma’s prose is very polemic, but it is not other characters with whom the main character engages in polemic, but depersonalised concepts embodied by signs and symbols. The attitudes criticised by the main character are not defended, therefore, the polemic is one-sided, not dialogic. Only in a wider literary context Škėma’s works become participants of the polilogue about the concepts of the Great Life. [From the publication]
