ENThe artistic imagination of Lithuanian-origin poet and artist Aldona Gustas (born 1932) has become the subject of an increasing number of scientific reflections. The older-generation author stands out because of her evident distance from the Lithuanian cultural tradition: Gustas settled in Germany when she was still a child, and her work has been heavily influenced by the signs and symbols of Western culture. Nevertheless, it is apparent that the writer did not reject her Lithuanian identity: a biographical narrative is constructed where multiple contexts are important, including the Lithuanian ones. In her later work, there is a strong sense of the existential "me" identity dimensions: the fragility and temporality of being is deliberated, minimalist expression of poetic and visual language is applied. In conclusion, one may observe that identity is created from memory, where various cultural contexts and existential experiences are combined. One of the strongest elements which covers the entire creative legacy is the signs of time: the biographical narrative is constructed from various links to specific moments of life that can be defined as the experience of "now".
