ENThis article explores two points of contact between the notions of ethics of two thinkers. The points are the concept of free will, which is directed to evil and the means to realize the demand of second formulation of categorical imperative. Kantian explanation of a possibility of free will to pick morally bad decision is not sufficiently lucid. One may comprehend Kierkegaard’s works “The Lilies of the Field and the Birds of the Air” and “The Sickness unto Death” as including an invitation to cease to manipulate oneself and the others. The story of Sarah and Tobias and criticism of compassion in “Fear and Trembling” may be interpreted as an allusion to inadmissible view of the other as a means to my end, the generous one equally. The choice of evil that is made by free will is approached as one of characteristic of demonic individual. The highest degree of moral evil is discerned in the person, who choses to be bad in order to become a reproach to the world, which is described in “The Sickness unto Death”.
