ENUsually there is no mentioning of Kierkegaard’s name in the history of hermeneutics. Yet in this article an attempt is made to disclose Kierkegaard as one of the underlying figures of the hermeneutic tradition. His thought signifies a radical crisis of hermeneutics, and a shift from modern to the contemporary mindset as well as a shift from rationalistic (Spinoza) and moralistic (Kant) interpretation of the Bible to the fideistic one. Connection between the so-called paradox of faith and another paradoxical relation - the one of the hermeneutics and the text that essentially cannot be understood - has been revealed by looking into a sketch of biblical hermeneutics on Isaacs offering presented by Kierkegaard in Fear and Trembling.
