Reading the Bible as a source for lexical and socio-cultural competence development

LTStraipsnyje kalbama apie Bibliją kaip socialinės kompetencijos vystymo šaltinį, kurioje atsispindi žydų tautos kaip religinės bendruomenės formavimasis. Pateikiama trumpa Biblijos Senojo ir Naujojo Testamento knygų turinio apžvalga, atskleidžianti tautos istorinę ir dvasinę patirtį bei Dievo veikimo būdus. Senųjų tekstų vertimo problema minima kaip moderniosios egzegezės rūpestis ir siekis kuo tiksliau perteikti biblinių kalbų sąvokas ir reikšmes. Biblinių vardų rašymo ir tarimo skirtumai pateikiami, lyginant angliškus ir lietuviškus variantus. ENThe article deals with the problems of reading the Bible and using it as a source for students' socio-cultural competence development, which reflects the formation of Jewish nation as religious community. In the first part, the formation of a religious community of the Jews is revealed by giving a short coverage of the Books of the Bible either of the Old or the New Testament. The second part describes the differences in the lexicology of modern English and the original languages of the Bible. The third part concentrates on the spelling and pronunciation of biblical names either in English or in Lithuanian. The article concludes with describing the Bible as a source for the development of social competence and lexical diversity. [From the publication]
