Specialybės tekstų skaitymas: savianalizė ir tikrovė

LTUniversitete studijuojantys studentai neišvengiamai susiduria su būtinumu skaityti profesinę literatūrą ne tik gimtąja, bet ir svetimomis kalbomis. Užsienio kalbų dėstytojai teigia, jog dauguma studentų taiko mokyklose praktikuojamą metodą versti tekstus pažodžiui. Užsienio kalbų įgūdžių formavimas didžiąja dalimi priklauso nuo gebėjimo skaityti efektyviai. Savaime suprantama, kad efektyvaus skaitymo įgūdžiai nesusidaro savaime - studentai turi būti mokomi skaitymo strategijų. Šis straipsnis nagrinėja universiteto studentų profesinės literatūros skaitymo įgūdžių būklę. ENThe issue of learning how to read efficiently is an important skill in the second language largely because University students have to get through a vast amount of reading materials in the course of their studies. Learners' ability to develop other language skills depends on efficiency in reading. Reading is known to be a complex cognitive activity, and teaching reading skills presents some difficulties. Authenticity of reading materials causes serious problems to students because no concessions are made to foreign learners who encounter non-simplified content. This article addresses the issue of learners’ proficiency in reading professional texts. Proficiency in reading professional literature in a foreign language depends on literacy skills in a native language. Learners' rate of reading has been researched and findings have been discussed. Students' self-assessment of language skills has been compared with the testing data, and some conclusions have been drawn on the ways of improving reading proficiency. Difficulties in reading comprehension are found to include a necessity for students to translate professional texts word by word, insufficient mastering of ESP vocabulary and linguistic grammar structures.
