ENFor contemporary society, cultural heritage is an undisputed and authentic source of history or reality. Society believes in it. However, reconstructed (restored) heritage tells more about the contemporary society, which reconstructs this heritage, and its conceptions about the past, than about the ìauthenticî past itself. The paper provides an analysis that reveals, what kind of cultural/ historical memories influenced the practice of heritage reconstruction in Soviet Lithuania and how these memories were expressed in reconstructed objects. The author of the paper draws the following conclusion: in this field, more influence exerted the memories ìbehind the sceneî, or national memories, than the memories spread by the Soviets. The research is based on the analysis of the reconstructed heritage (material objects) and its contexts. [From the publication]
