ENThe article aims at disclosing main structural and semantic peculiarities of Lithuanian etiological legends and religious tales by means of structural-semantic method of research. The theoretical statements are illustrated by the narratives, which define some aspects of an attitude towards death in Lithuanian traditional culture. Objectives: to elucidate the principal structural and semantic features of Lithuanian etiological legends and religious tales. Subject of the research: Lithuanian etiological legends and religious tales. Methods: structural-semantic, comparative. Data of the research: the text descriptions refer to “The Catalogue of Lithuanian Narrative Folklore” by B. Kerbelyte (4; 5; 6). Results: the assumption is proposed that structural-semantic analysis enable to define the function, the boundaries, and the development of the folklore genres more precisely. [From the publication]
