ENThe monograph is one of the first in the world literature covering the main traditions of aesthetics and philosophy of art of the East and the West. A concise universal history of ideas of aesthetics and philosophy of art is presented in a conceptual way. In the first book ("The Great Oriental Tradition"), the sources of aesthetics ideas of Egypt, Sumer, Babylon, Palestine and Iran are overviewed and traditional Indian, Chinese, Japanese, Islamic and the Arabian concepts are discussed in detail. The second book ("The Development of Western Tradition") is devoted to the most influential theories of Antiquity, the Middle Ages, the Renaissance, the Enlightenment, classical German philosophy and irrationalism. The third book ("The Methodological Prospects") deals with the spread of theories of the post-Hegelian epoch. The J. Burckhard’s, H. Taine’s, positivist, psychological, formalist, intuitivist, psychoanalystic, phenomenological, existentialist, etc. concepts, as well as various concepts of art sociology, art psychology, philosophy of art history and philosophy of modern art are analyzed. The author intentionally focuses his attention on the less known "marginal" and "critic" phases of development of aesthetic thought and philosophy of art when innovative ideas and points of view unexpectedly arise.
