ENAt the beginning of the article, the history of comparative philosophy is reviewed. The contributions to comparative studies of Eastern and Western ways of thinking of Shopenhauer, F. Max Müller, P. Daussen, P. Masson-Oursel, Swan Liat Kwe, and the participants in the Honolulu comparativistic movement are considered. Relying on an analysis of multiple empirical data, the author shows that in the early stage of the development of classical comparative philosophy the efforts of the researchers were focused on the classification of metahistorical archetypes of Eastern and Western modes of thinking in the search for closely related mental models, concepts and ideas, on the basis of which parallel philosophical traditions could be determined. During the contemporary process of globalization, Eastern and Western civilizations are not developing independently, on the contrary, their interactions increase as never before, creating conditions for the formation of a new universal meta-philosophy and post-philosophy. This stimulates radical changes in postmodern comparativistic philosophy. It tends to replace the dichotomy approach of classical comparativistic philosophy by the conception of cultural relativism and new complex strategies in which the aims of the concrete inquiry are regarded as most important.
