ENAfter the Second World War a large wave of new emigrants left Lithuania for political reasons; from DP camps in Germany they dispersed throughout many other countries, including Great Britain. The latter had a great postwar shortage of labourers in the agricultural, mining, textile, and healthcare sectors; thus opportunities were provided for political refugees, including Lithuanians, to work and settle in Great Britain. In this article the author, taking his family as an example, describes the history of the arrival of these newer emigrants in Great Britain. He briefly summarizes the cultural and political activities of Lithuanians in Great Britain from 1947 to 1991, concentrating on their central organization, the Lithuanian Association in Great Britain, and its undertakings and deeds during that period.
