ENThe problem of first and second form pupils’ adjustment in mainstream secondary school is discussed. The hypothesis was the following: the most important factors for adjustment at school are: maturity for school, temperament, the style of their upbringing in the family. These prerequisites have been proved by the investigation of 50 first - and second - formers. The best results in adjustment have been demonstrated by emotionally mature children, sanguine pupils and those whose parents’ attitude was tolerant towards their children’s failures. The identified school adjustment factors can assist the teacher to organize the educational process more successfully and to foresee the volume of pedagogical influence and more effective communication with the pupils’ parents.
