LTŠią knygą sudaro devyni etiudai, kurių pirmieji variantai buvo rašyti įvairiomis progomis ir spausdinti įvairiuose leidiniuose nuo 1996 iki 2006 metų.2 Visus šiuos tekstus vienija pastanga galvoti ir kalbėti ne tiktai turint omenyje gyvenamosios vietos ir laiko aplinkybes, bet ir sąmoningai bei nuosekliai į jas atsižvelgiant. Nagrinėjamos temos susidėliojo į tris dalis. Pirmoje surinkti etiudai, daugiausia atsiradę stebint Vilniaus dailės akademijos Dailėtyros instituto senosios dailės tyrinėtojų darbus ir šiek tiek juose dalyvaujant. Jie yra skirti Lietuvos kultūros istorijos metodologinėms problemoms, o gal veikiau kultūros istoriko savivokos problemoms. Ten pat atsidūrė ir vieno XIX amžiaus teksto analizė, pradėta Vilniaus universiteto A. J. Greimo semiotinių studijų centro seminare, o vėliau pratęsta, mintims ir pastebėjimams kaupiantis. Antroje dalyje sudėti tekstai, skirti dabartinės Lietuvos kultūros bei viešosios erdvės bruožams aptarti ir susiję su Santaros-Šviesos konferencijomis, atviromis aktualiai visuomeninei problematikai. Trečioje svarstomi kelių dabarties filosofinių ir parafilosofinių idėjų recepcijos bei transformacijos Lietuvoje ypatumai, išryškėję labiau akademinio pobūdžio seminaruose. [...]. ENThe nine philosophical sketches composing this publication were written in the decade spanning 1996 to 2006. The texts, sketches, are not attempts to exhaust the chosen themes, to conclude or establish theses; rather, they are philosophical projects which facilitate the development of their respective subjects. These sketches inherently devise the book into three parts, representative of three trends of philosophical thought the author inhabited during the last decade: 1) The hermeneutic and phenomenological methodology of art history and criticism. 2) The peculiarities of contemporary Lithuanian society and its moral culture. 3) A hermeneutic analysis of contemporary philosophical writing. All the philosophical sketches of the book present a critical view with an awareness of the key issues of the chosen subjects. The sketches of the first part concentrate on the methodological problems of art history and art criticism from a hermeneutical and phenomenological perspective. The major theme of this first section is the relation of a work of art to the time and space of its creation, and thus existence, in a particular system of art. They are critical of the tendency of art historians to evaluate and reproach works of art from a modern point of view, i.e. from a perspective of the speculative, contemporary art market. The works of art posed as objects of analyses are the works of the period of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, the nineteenth century sermon by Lithuanian priest, Jurgis Pabrėža, etc. The second part of the book discusses the post-Soviet state of Lithuanian society, their mores and principles of public life, mass media and accepted thinking. Cynicism, isolation, lack of responsibilities, the loss of the sense of a community of citizens, are the major problematic issues critically viewed in the three sketches.The metaphorical titles of the sketches symbolize the peculiarities of the public space of Lithuanian society: images of a honeycomb, a mist, a flat plate indicating the plain, monotonous horizontal thinking in contemporary Lithuanian society after the fall of a vertical value measure of human action. The sketches of the third part are devoted to postmodern philosophy. The first sketch presents a close examination of the simulacrum in the philosophy of Jean Baudrillard and Gilles Deleuze, simulacric images of nature and history (Umberto Eco and Alfredas Bumblauskas), and the hyperreal simulacrum. The second sketch underscores the key principles of Jacques Derridas philosophical writing about religion: initial and repetitive doubts, deracination, messianism et al. The last sketch explicitly articulates the method of creating and analyzing concepts (metaphors?) in the philosophy of Gilles Deleuze difference and repetition, schizophrenic and paranoid thinking, etc.). The book, "On Simulacric Being and Other Sketches", is an indispensable challenge to provoke creative thought from art critics and historians, the students and researchers of postmodern philosophy.
