ENIn the article the particular analyse of Biruta's image (Pagan priest, the Grand Duke of Lithuania - Kęstutis's wife) in 19th century Polish literature was presented. The comparative lecture of the texts should divulge the character of process of the Lithuanian girl from Palanga fates assimilation to Polish culture, specially the inscrutable mechanism of changes in her portrait (from central position in Romanticism literature to demotion in later novels for children and youth). The research material includes literary works, which were rarely analysed by the historians of the literature, among others: A. Asnyk, F. Bematovicz, J. I. Kraszevski, J. Mačiulis-Maironis, T. Miciński, J. Papi, W. Pol, K. Pronievska (K. Praniauskaitė), M. Rodzieviczowna, J. Turczyński, Z. Rudnicka, S. Valenovicz (S. Valiūnas), A. Vieniarski, S. Vitvicki, St. Vyspiański, S. Żeromski). Beside the historical-literary problems from the frontier of Polish-Lithuanian comparatism, the memory of Biruta saved in different form (in art, music, historiography) was also detailed.
