ENThe book Lietuviški elementariai also discusses the primers for children with special needs. In his paper ‘Primers for schools for children with special needs’, the doctor of social sciences, professor Jonas Ambrukaitis mentions the primer ABС by Vanda Jurgutienė and Liudvika Tomkytė. It is the first primer in which, following a special methodology for the teaching of native language, attempts are made to adapt the teaching materials for mentally retarded children. The author offers a detailed analysis of the Aušrele (The Dawn) by the teacher Juozas Danilavičius and points out that this primer, based on more or less consistent adherence to the requirement of the method of sound analysis and synthesis, successfully combines the objectives of elementary reading and corrective development of the spoken language of children with special needs.
