ENIn a historical context of uniformity of identity due to Sovietization, Lithuania experienced change in its national and local territorial identity. After 1990, following the return of national independence, rural society reinvested in local identity. This paper discusses how the heritage legitimized the construction of a territorial identity in the case of Lithuania. This issue has to be related to the types of projects that the rural communities developed as part of the implementation of the «LEADER» policy. Awareness by local actors of the heritage value arising from the land of Lithuania is examined for the district of Joniškis. Many patrimonial valuations illustrate clearly the reinvestment by local populations in their identity. This contribution includes a heritage approach to resource recycling, such as history and culture and the link to the identity process. [From the publication]
