ENThe CONNECT Project aimed to explore WEB 2.0-based non formal-informal learning approaches to improve social and economic participation of adults at risk of exclusion from the labour market. In particular, Connect intended to investigate new ways of skills and competence enhancement through the development of non-formal/informal learning environment, using Web 2.0 and open source tools. Four national and one Transnational Community were activated. The groups in question are women, the elderly and immigrants with problems such as social inclusion, the digital divide, unemployment or insecure /temporary jobs and work life balance. These diverse target groups have been distributed within the various national communities. The German Community was made up of 12 women in their 40's, from cultural backgrounds outside the EU, some of them migrants. They were recipients of social welfare and taking part in integration courses learning practical skills in the catering and textile sectors. Most of the active members of the Spanish Community were elderly people. They were either retired or at the end of their working lives. The majority were women (9 out of 14), with only a basic level of education and low ICT skills. The Italian community was made up of 40 women of Italian nationality, apart from five from outside the EU. They were between 30 and 60 years old and had a medium-high educational background (diploma or degree). Almost all of them had precarious employment (occasional work or in short-or long-term unemployment). The target group for the Lithuanian Community was people over 45. They came from Lithuania's disadvantaged areas. They were learning how to use E-services and E-facilities for work life balance purposes. Users already registered in other communities or in any specific could join the Transnational Community as a "meeting point" of the whole Project. Another important group was the community of tutors, this transpired during the project as a potential group for the learning environment exploitation phase. [Extract, p. 16]
