Šiuolaikinės bibliotekos samprata

LTKalbėti apie šiuolaikinės bibliotekos sampratą yra be galo sunkus ir įpareigojantis uždavinys. Pranešėjo čia tyko skambių teiginių, lozungų, patetikos grėsmė, nepatrauklus pamokslaujančio, "visą tiesą" skelbiančio pranašo vaidmuo. Bibliotekos yra skirtingos; bibliotekų tipų įvairovė, jų socialinės paskirties ir funkcijų skirtybės, empirinių duomenų gausa labai apsunkina "bendro vardiklio" išvedimą. Be to, "šiuolaikinė" - dar nereiškia "atsiradusi šiandien"; ji turi ištakas, tradicijas, šaknis, kurios neretai stipriau nei norėtųsi apsprendžia jos dabartį. Jau vien tai terminą "šiuolaikinė" mintyse paverčia kitu - "amžinoji". Gal todėl mano pranešimo tema turėtų būti pakoreguota: derėtų kalbėti ne tiek apie šiuolaikinės bibliotekos sampratą, kiek apie šiuolaikiną bibliotekos sampratą.Bendram apmąstymui siūlomos kelios tezės: norėčiau pasvarstyti apie biblioteką kaip idėją, jos fizinę išraišką - biblioteką kaip locus, vietą, ir bibliotekos transformaciją į virtualų būvį; apie bibliotekos metaforas ir įvaizdžius, lakoniškai ir vaizdžiai išreiškiančius jos esmę; apie praeities, dabarties ir ateities sąsajas ir pabaigoje iškelti keletą poleminių klausimų apie paradigmų krizę. ENModem library, in many ways, is an unfinished project of the future and a product of yesterday. The library as it functions in today's society has not emerged today, it was and is still created by tradition, expectations and understanding of the society and professionals of what the library should give to the society. In spite of all tremendous changes in library operations, technology and architecture, the essence of the library remains the same: to communicate ideas and information to the users, to connect the future and the past, to build community and individual identity. Therefore, the topic of this presentation can be also defined as "A Modern Concept of a Library". In the presentation an attempt is made to explore the main components of the library as an idea and its representation in library buildings through the most popular metaphors and images of the library: library as a temple, prison, hospital, rail-way station, modem office, living room, high-tech center and others. It is noted that librarians and architects, designing and constructing library buildings, very often make attempts to implement the whole library idea into a building, which is impossible per se. Only networking, resource sharing and cooperation between libraries and between libraries and other institutions, organizations and providers can ensure the ideal library. In the electronic age, therefore, libraries should not focus so much on collecting ALL but rather should re-orient their energy and efforts to network-building. The library nowadays and in the future will be important as a gateway, as a portal through which the user will access different resources; it is and will still be important as a physical place for people to gather, to come, to browse, talk to each other and communicate. This double role requires new professional approaches and organizational solutions too. [From the publication]
