EN1000 'comma' mistakes were collected from recently written various public Lithuanian texts: the comma was missing in 710 cases, and in 290 cases the comma wasn't needed. The majority of'missing comma cases' consisted of subordinate clauses (358), parenthesis (155) and extended participle attribute (60) punctuation. The mistakes of redundant comma were mostly consisting of various punctuation of syntagma, which, according to the rales of punctuation, shouldn't be separated. The reason behind excessive punctuation mistakes is more of not knowing and misunderstanding the syntax of the sentence rather than not knowing the rules of punctuation. The punctuation mistakes of public writing affects the readers who don't have a strong punctuation skill. Knowing, which rules of punctuation are violated the most, they could get more attention in school. [From the publication]
