ENFrom August 1944 to March 1945, nearly 250 Lithuanian freedom fighters attended 4 military intelligence and counterintelligence schools in Abwehr, Germany. They trained in company-size groups formed strictly according to nationality. Due to wartime, the shortened courses lasted from several weeks to several months according to their purpose. The course participants were taught basic military training, such as drill, armament and shooting, tactics, military topography, military engineering, communications and combat self-defence by German, Russian and Lithuanian military instructors. 32 groups of scouts-saboteurs formed by 200 fighters were infiltrated by land and air into their targeted areas in Lithuania and joined the anti- Soviet resistance movement that was mainly supplied with Soviet and German pistols, automatic rifles, machine-guns, munition, grenades, Soviet regular and security army uniforms, civil clothing, equipment, radio transmitters, forged documents and money. Infiltrated fighters organized one of the first partisan fighting groups and joined already existing ones. They were commanders, chiefs of sections at headquarters and provided partisans with combat training by using the acquired knowledge. The graduates of intelligence–diversion schools fought in regular, security, border guard and local army units. Some of them died in fights or were missing, while others exposed themselves, were sentenced to prison and death. [From the publication]
