ENOn March 28, 1902 the future creator and volunteer of the Lithuanian Army, officer, opera soloist Povilas Vladislovas Ivanauskas was born. He was born in the small town of Simnas, in the county of Alytus, in the family of the farmers Mykolas and Rozalija Ivanauskai. Together with Vladislovas, the brothers Konstantinas (born in 1899), Albinas (born in 1905) and Vaclovas (born in 1909), and his sister Sofija (born in 1910) grew in this family. The parents had 17 hectares of land. Father Mykolas died in 1933. In 1912 Vladislovas started to study at the Seinai Gymnasium, then he moved to Vilnius to continue his education. At the beginning of the First World War, in 1915, the pupils of the gymnasium were evacuated to Russia. Vladislovas lived and studied in Poltava and Voronezh. In 1917, in Cholm, he graduated from Grade 1 Technical School. In 1918 he graduated from High Technical School in Voronezh. He spoke Russian, Polish, and German. In 1918 Vladislovas Ivanauskas returned to his father‘s house. He started to work as a teacher in Simnas. In 1919 he graduated from Marijampolė summer teacher training courses in Krokialaukis. On January 6, 1920 he joined the Lithuanian Army as a volunteer. On October 17, 1920, after graduating from the Military School (3rd Graduation Year) he was awarded a Lieutenant degree and was assigned to the 12th Infantry Corps. On January 11, 1922 he was transferred to the Armoured Auto-Division, and assigned the Junior Officer of the Armour “Šarūnas” team. On January 8, 1925 he was promoted to the position of Senior Lieutenant, and on November 23, 1928 to the position of the Captain. In 1927 he graduated from the Automation and Tank Management courses. On July 14, 1930 he was appointed as the Commander of the Auto-Division at the Armour Team.On December 31, 1931 he was transferred to the Headquarters of the Military Staff, on February 2, 1932 he was appointed the Inspector of the Lithuanian Army (under the rights of the Commander of the Division). Vladislovas Ivanauskas was awarded the Medal of Volunteers of the Lithuanian Armed Forces (in 1928, medal certificate No. 338), the Medal of the 10th anniversary of the Lithuanian Independence (in 1928, medal certificate No. 3785), the GDL (DLK) Gediminas Order of the 4th degree (in 1932). As a volunteer of the Lithuanian Army, he was assigned 8.5 hectares of land in Kretinga County. In the summer of 1944 Vladislovas Ivanauskas retired to Germany. When the University for the Baltic in Germany was organized (in Hamburg), he taught singing there. In the forced emigration he was one of the founders of the Lithuanian Nationalist Party (LNP), and, in 1948, he was one of the founders and leader of the Lithuanian Revival Movement (LAS), the Member of the Board and Honorary Court. In 1949 Vladislovas Ivanauskas moved to the United States, settled in Brooklyn (New York State). He had a singing studio, solo concerts in the Lithuanian colonies of the USA and Canada. He died on May 31, 1952 in Brooklyn. [From the publication]
