ENThe article presents a literature review and the analysis of official European documents and law, in order to establish theoretical dimensions for the modelling of children's legal education. Legal education is necessary for the sustainable development of individuals and their successful integration, from early childhood, into society. A citizen may fully participate in society once they are aware of their rights and duties, thus understanding and respecting the laws, rights, freedoms and legitimate interests of other people. Individuals who are unaware of their rights and freedoms and their boundaries often become victims of crime or offenders of the law. These factors support the need for and the significance of legal education. The analysis showed that, generally, legal education modelling within general education does not receive enough attention, in enabling students and teachers to positively value the necessity of a legal education model within general education. Furthermore, it highlighted the importance of seeing children as members of society, holding the same rights as adults, and of educating such children to become active members of a democratic society.
