Alternative Title:
Pedagogical and musical activity of Rudolfas Lymanas (1855-1904) in Rokiškis in the late 1800s and in the beginning of the 1900s
Summary / Abstract:

LTRokiškio grafai Tyzenhauzai ir Pšezdzieckiai garsėjo vaizduojamojo meno kūrinių kolekcijomis, muzikos instrumentais, gamintais garsiausių Europos meistrų. Meniškai turtinga dvaro aplinka leido Rokiškio grafams puoselėti ir muzikinę kultūrą. Finansinės galimybės ir ambicijos nenusileisti kitiems dvarams skatino Rokiškio grafienę Mariją Tyzenhauzaitę-Pšezdzieckienę ieškoti optimalaus varianto muzikinei kultūrai dvare plėtoti. Deja, tuomet mūsų krašte nebuvo vietinių muzikos profesionalų, tad dvarininkams teko kviestis muzikus iš kitų šalių. 1883 m. į Lietuvą atvykę du profesionalūs čekai muzikai - Rudolfas Lymanas į Rokiškį, o Jozefas Mašekas į Rietavą, pas kunigaikštį Mykolą Kleopą Oginskį, - padėjo pamatus įvairiapusiam muzikiniam lavinimui. Abu muzikai turėjo ambicingų siekių muzikinei kultūrai krašte skleisti ir tas idėjas įgyvendino. [...]. ENThe Rokiškis earls Tyznhauzai and Pšezdzieckiai were famous for the collections of fine arts and musical instruments, produced by the most famous European masters. The artistically rich manorial environment allowed the Rokiškis earls to cherish musical culture. Financial opportunities and ambitions encouraged Rokiškis earl Marija Tyzenhauzaitė-Pšezdzieckienė to search the optimal solution for the development of the musical culture in the manor. Unfortunately, there were no local music professionals at that time in our country, so landlords had to invite musicians from other countries. In 1883 two professional Czech musicians arrived in Lithuania - Rudolfas Lymanas in Rokiškis and Jozefas Mašekas in Rietavas to the duke M. K. Oginskis. These two musicians laid the foundations for a versatile musical education, because they had ambitious goals to spread musical culture in our country and they successfully implemented those ideas. The material about R. Lymanas personality and his versatile activities in Rokiškis is preserved in the archive of Rokiškis St. Matthew Apostle Evangelist Church and in Rokiškis Regional Museum. The correspondence is written in Polish and German languages. The arrival of R. Lymanas in Rokiškis was fatal and it lasted for twenty-one year since 1883 until 1904. R. Lymanas died in 1904 and was buried in the old cemetery of Rokiškis. The studies of available material made it possible to look once again at the life of R. Lymanas in Rokiškis, to his focus on creating the "Earl Music and Singing School", his focus on his duties. He became the headmaster and the teacher of this school and he developed the solid teaching programmes for three school divisions: the orchestral instrumental division, the piano and organ division and the singing division. The profile of the school chosen by R. Lymanas was the preparation of the organists. This chosen profile distinguished the school from the other notable Lithuanian schools of the 19th century in Rietavas and in Plungė. Since the year of 2000 every autumn in Rokiškis there have been organised the music festivals dedicated to the memory of a Czech musician Rudolfas Lymanas. At this festival the famous organ music masters from Lithuania, the Czech Republic, Estonia, and Latvia participate. Every autumn the organ produced by the famous Valter Company plays at Rokiškis St. Matthew Church. This organ earlier was carefully cared by Rudolfas Lymanas. [From the publication]
