ENThe high quality of modern studies is guaranteed by the means of study based on mobile information technologies. Weak and undeveloped infrastructure of learning technologies negatively influences the results of students’ learning. Herewith, the requirements (mobility, accessibility from anywhere and at any time) of students and teachers are growing, therefore, more and more IT services are transferred to the Internet. The basic advantage of such transference is the accessibility of data and programs from anywhere using the Internet connection. Virtualization and its newest branch cloud computing are the main technologies allowing such kind of support. More and more cloud computing services are being offered to teaching institutions. Rapidly developing branch require lessening expenses of information technologies (IT) installation and renewal as well as creating new possibilities of cooperation. In the context of the development of learning technologies, the expenses of necessary software and technical equipment service and development have to be assessed. There is a problem how to establish the necessity of certain software and technical equipment tomorrow, in a month, half a year or in a year. The investigation of cloud computing service expenses and the analysis of information technologies infrastructure can help to answer the question. The purpose of the article is to analyze the possibilities of virtual desktop technologies in the process of studies.The following tasks of the article are: Analyze the infrastructure of information technologies; the types and services of cloud computing; Assess virtual desktop expenditure in the process of studies; Analyze virtual desktop service in Kaunas University of Technologies. The object of the article is the service of cloud computing virtual desktop. Methods and means of work fulfillment: analysis of scientific reference concerning informational technologies infrastructure and cloud computing expenses; also comparative analysis of investigation data. Results of the investigation estimated the cost saving of virtual desktop and was found that most of the savings are in larger computer classes. Comparing the cost of 30, 60 and 90 computer classes, the largest economies (up 40 percent) is obtained in the case of the third option. The first chapter of this article deals with the problems of cloud computing service types. The second chapter presents the investigation of the expenses of cloud computing virtual desktop service comparing with the implementation of usual information technologies in computer classes.
