ENThe article in commemoration of professor. J. Laužikas’ 100 years deals with one of the main pedagogical postulate – the problem of exercising will. It overviews the approaches of the most prominent international and Lithuanian pedagogues towards the role of will and the exercising of will. The article emphasises that in educating an independent human being in a democratic society special attention is paid to the exercising of his/her will – the more independent the human being is the more stronger his/her inner holdouts should be.
